Course Title: “Introduction to Electrical Estimating”
Duration: 1 Day
Location: Fairfield Enterprise Centre, Louth, LN11 0LS
 
For: Individuals working within the electrical contracting industry who wish to understand the basic steps of estimating electrical contracting works from tender documents and drawings issued by clients/main contractors.
Level: Beginner. For individuals with limited or no prior knowledge of electrical estimating.
Entry Requirements: A basic understanding of electrical contracting works is required as a minimum. An electrical installation qualification is advantageous but not required.
Learning Outcomes: The course is designed to enable candidates to gain the fundamental skills required to undertake small to medium sized electrical contracting estimates from tender documents and drawings.
 
Content: Through a workshop style format, candidates will explore the basics of how to:

  • Assess tender packages and filter documentation to ascertain relevant information
  • Evaluate tender drawings and specifications
  • Formulate and issue Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Conduct drawing take-offs
  • Issue official quotation requests to suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Evaluate supplier and sub-contractor quotes
  • Create an estimate breakdown format
  • Input material costs and quotes in to the estimate
  • Allocate labour hours to installation works and input in to the estimate
  • Assign material mark-ups and labour rates to the estimate
  • Document estimate clarification and qualification notes
  • Compile a tender letter
